Automating precast shop drawings in Revit
Dubai Precast piloted VCON AutoPrecast to automate connection detailing, reinforcement and sheet production directly inside Revit.
Sector: Precast concrete manufacturingRegion: Dubai, UAE
Challenge
- Shop-drawing production was largely manual — dimensioning connections, tagging reinforcement and laying out sheets element by element.
- Detailing standards had to stay consistent across a large catalogue of precast elements and many detailers.
- Changes to an element meant re-detailing its drawings by hand.
Solution
- Element, connection, rebar and sheet standards captured once as reusable VCON configurations.
- Connections, voids and openings dimensioned and tagged automatically per viewport.
- Sheets and viewports generated and updated from the model, with per-viewport control where needed.
- Filter-based (None-VCON) annotation for manually-placed families that carry no VCON connection.
Outcome
- Detailing standards applied consistently from a single, shared configuration.
- Drawing updates flow from model changes instead of manual re-detailing.
- Detailers spend more time on engineering decisions and less on repetitive drafting.
